Still Remains, Devil Sold His Soul and Eschalon – Rescue Rooms, Nottingham – 12th Nov 2025

On this dreary Wednesday night, Still Remains kick off their UK tour in Nottingham. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of debut album Of Love and Lunacy, the crowd gathering are in for one hell of a night.
But first, Eschalon take to the stage. It may be Still Remains 20th anniversary tour, but it’s also Eschalon’s first full UK tour. The British five piece (Cambridge, via Manchester) sound like seasoned pros. Mixing heavy riffs, and even heavier screams with electronic elements and the occasional sing along moments. Songs like ‘Shallow’ show off the softer side, while new single ‘Zealot‘ is pure brutal vibes, ‘bleurgh’ and all. The crowd are all fully invested, getting involved with arms up and waving phone lights during ‘Denial‘. Eschalon end on debut single ‘Helios‘, where not even a broken mic can stop them. Vocalists Brad Makinson and Maximo David taking it in turns to bellow down the one remaining.
Next up are Devil Sold His Soul, who are captivating from the moment they enter the stage. The long ambient intro of ‘Tides‘ setting the scene perfectly. The band spend no time on introducing tracks or mid set banter, letting the music speak for itself. Duel vocals are out in full force tonight, with frontmen Ed Gibbs and Paul Green having the most beautiful and brutal back and forth, through choice cuts from their 18 year back catalogue. ‘Clouds‘ sitting comfortably next to ‘Burdened‘. They cleverly end the set on ‘Like It’s Your Last‘.
Finally, the main event. For the first time since 2017, Still Remains step out onto a Nottingham stage, playing through the entirety of their first album Of Love and Lunacy. The temperature in the room has risen noticeably, and everyone is raring to go. Single ‘The Worst Is Yet To Come‘ hits early in the track listing, getting the reaction you’d expect. But this doesn’t dampen the energy, ‘White Walls‘ has the whole room singing along, as does ‘Cherished‘. Vocalist T.J. Miller speaks for us all when he asks ‘Does anyone else feel as old as I do?’ before admonishing ‘I don’t care if you’re 50, I want you in that pit!’.
During the musical interlude ‘With What You Have‘, Miller takes the opportunity to get on top of the crowd, joking ‘you’re going to have to carry me for the whole next song’. While he doesn’t completely hold the audience to this bargain, he does spend the beginning of ‘Kelsey‘ being marched around the room on the shoulders of those in attendance. ‘Recovery‘ sees the first crowd surfer of the night, then the second, then the third…all it takes is that one body to break the ice and it’s a free for all.
‘I Can Revive Him With My Own Hands‘ sends a burst of energy through the crowd. With Of Love and Lunacy coming to an end, there’s still time for a couple of extra tracks before Still Remains have to bow out and leave the stage. ‘Stay Captive‘ and ‘Avalanche‘ book end new single ‘The Wound and the Weapon‘, which, only being a few weeks old, stands it’s ground among such nostalgia, while still feeling fresh and exciting.
With that, the show is finished, but the future is bright.
