Raiding the Rock Vault – LVH – Las Vegas, NV
Update: As of 11/2/2014, Raiding the Rock Vault has a new home at the Tropicana, right on the Las Vegas strip.
Playing at the historic LVH, the same theater in which Elvis performed when he was working Las Vegas, is another show that pays tribute to rock music: Raiding the Rock Vault. The show pays tribute to the some of the greatest hits from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, boasting itself as “The Greatest Set List Ever Written,” the show definitely lives up to its name.
The show starts with a team of archaeologists visiting a Mayan temple in the 30th century, attempting to recover a time capsule, which somehow contains the band that puts on the show. It’s a silly premise that is quickly forgotten once the band takes the stage. Transitional scenes by actors help to put into context the music of the era, which aids in helping some of the younger members of the audience understand its significance.
The musicians will also be familiar to many of the readers here, and certainly those in attendance. John Payne, formerly of Asia, Howard Lesse of Heart, Traci Guns, founding member of Guns N’Roses and the LA Guns, Robin McAuley, Paul Shortino of Quiet Riot, Jay Schellen of Badfinger, Mihcael T. Ross, who played with Lita Ford and Andrew Freeman.
