Ed Alonzo’s Psycho Circus of Magic and Mayhem
Well, well now…what’s this. A non concert post? That’s right. In addition to photography, I’m an amateur magician, so when I saw that Ed Alonzo was in town, I knew I couldn’t miss out on the show. This isn’t completely removed from music either. Ed, in addition to being a fantastic performer, is also a magic consultant, and toured with Britney Spears on her Circus tour, as the magician, taught Katy Perry to fly, and was working with Michael Jackson on his tour, before his passing.
If Ed looks familiar, you may recognize him from his many television appearances, including Saved by the Bell, where he regularly appeared as “Max,” owner of “The Max,” where all the kids hung out. As well as How I Met Your Mother, and many, many others, which can all be found on his IMDB page.
The Psycho Circus of Magic and Mayhem has plenty of signs inside the theater, and out, warning that the show is meant for mature audiences only…and you might want to leave the kids at home for this one, as the language does get a little strong, and innuendos are far from subtle. But, if you aren’t offended by language, or crass humor, Ed certainly delivers a highly entertaining show.
Ed does pay homage to the classics of magic, but adds his own twist (after pulling a rabbit from a hat, he promptly incinerates it). As well as doing things that are a little more unconventional, like swallowing a red balloon, then making it reappear…brown (I’ll leave you to fill in the gaps). Of course, I could go on, and on telling you everything that Ed does in his show, but that would take the fun out of it, though I could easily watch his show again a dozen times or more.
Ed is performing every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, through November 2nd, at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City. For a full schedule of his appearances, please visit his website, linked below.
