Deep Purple’s “Smoke On The Water” voted The Greatest Guitar Riff of all time (YouTube playlist with first 20 included)

Deep Purple’s “Smoke On The Water” has been voted the Greatest Guitar Riff Ever in a poll with over 33,000 votes cast by music fans from across the world to mark World Guitar Day 2017. Ritchie Blackmore’s iconic riff on the 1972 track has long been hailed as a classic, and managed to fend off competition from some of the biggest names in rock’n’roll to claim the top spot.

Interesting facts? AC/DC and Led Zeppelin both have three entries in the top 20, and singer Ozzy Osbourne appears on three of the tracks in the top 20. But the Kings Of The Riff are Metallica – the Bay Area thrash band that went on to be the biggest band in metal appear four times in the top 20 alone… A full list of the top 100 can be found below.
